"Dovima with Elephants" by Richard Avedon.

It's literally one of the most famous fashion photographs in the history of fashion photography (and that's a lot of photos) by Richard Avedon. The Christian Dior team recently purchaced the original print for $1.1 million at an auction. In the photo Dovima is wearing a Christian Dior gown at the Cirque d'Hiver.
I love looking at old photographs of fashion. In my opinion its one of the most important things you can do to prepare for a career in fashion. It's mentally stimulating and creates future references to call upon. Plus, it's not like fashion photography has been around very long; even less than a hundred years. The best and easiest way is to check out local libraries for photography books. I'm sure you could find great collections online, but I prefer the tangibleness of the glossy pages.
