NYFW, Part 2

(a party with hammocks is my kind of party)

How hectic the last few days have been! Things have not slowed down since New York Fashion Week- if it’s not a shoot it’s a premiere or another event that can’t be skipped without a nagging conscious (raging FOMO over here…). And that’s not even mentioning that I am technically a full-time student! But regardless of my nonexistent sleep-cycle, I have spent the last few weeks in a mood similar to the euphoria of a kid in a candy store.

As the weather slowly but assiduously begins to turn in the direction of perma-sweater-season, I’ve decided that I am not quite ready to part with rooftop times. As a last ditch effort to make the most of the final sultry summer evenings I attended the Maiyet/AnOther Magazine’s last “rooftop happening.” Walking into the accompanying loft space on Bowery was an oddly spiritual sensation as the alter-like space was peppered with candles lighting the seemingly infinite amount of shots of Kate Moss collaging the walls, both from her FW14 AnOther spread and highlights from past editorials.

Once outdoors (and armed with a blueberry mojito), my first sight was of Andy Warhol’s ‘Sleep’ film being projected onto a nearby wall. Opposite the screening was a phrase (indistinguishable thanks to the hordes of thirsty it-girls encircling the bar) perhaps meant to set the tone of the evening.

As for my aforementioned FOMO (fear of missing out), my angst was not for naught. Heading out on the earlier side to check out the new 3.1 Phillip Lim store opening, I later found out that David Beckham had shown up not thirty minutes later. What a rip off!

DVF’s SS15 collection is all I will need on my jaunt down to the French Riviera. The wonderfully feminine collection reminded me of what it is that I love so much about being a girl in the 21st century. The sunny studio where Diane chose to show her collection (notably NOT Lincoln Center) was the perfect accompaniment to her flirty yet undeniably sexy collection.

While I was on the lookout for Kendall Jenner whom I’d apparently already seen three times that week without noticing, I was not expecting a surprise turn around runway from Naomi Campbell. Although DVF, know for her nurturing nature, and Naomi, known for her hot temper, aren’t necessarily the most obvious pairing, I’m curious why they aren’t grouped together more often. Both DVF and Naomi have risen to the top of their fields from inauspicious backgrounds (DVF, whose parents were sent to Auschwitz and Naomi who was raised by a single mother in a dodgy area of South London) to become champions of female empowerment. Bravo!
