the 2010 CFDA awards

On June 8th, the Oscars of fashion took place at the new home of New York fashion week - Lincoln Center. The annual event hosted each year by the Council of Fashion Designers of America is one of the best excuses for you to wear a great outfit and style-stalk the stars. In fact, in many ways its better for me than the actual Oscars because although what everyone wears to the ceremony is a big part of what makes the event so special, I actually care and want to know who will win the awards. It was a taped public event - where anyone could buy tickets in advance for a decent price. Just like almost all other award shows, celebrities were the presenters of the awards. I was pretty disappointed with a few of the presents this year (*cough* Dakota Fanning *cough*) but also loving a few (anna wintour is a fashion goddess and alexa chung & ed westwick = a match made in heaven)
This years big winners were Marc Jacobs (women's wear designer of the year), the designers of Rag & Bone (Menswear designers of the year) and Alexis Bittar (accessories designer of the year). Other awards of high value went to Jason Wu (Swarovski Award for Womenswear), Richard Chai (Swarovski Award for Menswear), Alexander Wang (Swarovski Award for Accessory Design - hello the coco duffle bag), Michael Kors (Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award), and Christopher Bailey (International Award). Overall the night was a huge success as well as overflowing with glamazons dressed to the 9s. Below are some of my favorite outfits from the night.

Alexa Chung

Alexa Chung in Marc Jacobs. Not that I'm implying anything but this dress looks like it would fit in quite well with the Spring/Summer 2010 Miu Miu collection.

Dakota Fanning

So I'm not a fan of Dakota's and Im not sure what that awkward puddle is in front of her shoe but she did look pretty in sky high heels and a Marchesa dress.

Lara Stone

Model Lara Stone in Calvin Klein with the designer of the brand, Francisco Costa.

Sasha Pivovarova

Two of the newest CFDA members, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, with model Sasha Pivovarova in one of their lines The Row.

Liya Kebede

Liya Kebede in Proenza Schouler with the two designers of the brand Jack McCokkough and Lazaro Hernandez.

Sarah Jessica Parker

Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker in Alexander McQueen (RIP). The tragic designer was honored that night.

Gwyneth Paltrow, in Michael Kors, dwarfed the designer, but at least her gorgeous black gown meshed with his getup.

Gwyneth Paltrow looks like a gothic mermaid in a beautiful Michael Kors gown with the designer.

... actress Alexis Bledel ...

One of my favorite actresses of all time, Alexis Bledel in a pretty Benhaz Serafpour cocktail dress which to me looks like it is supposed to look like strings of pearls draped all over you in a flapper-like manner.

... 'The City' star Whitney Port ...

The City star as well as designer for her own brand Whitney Eve, Whitney Port in David Meister gown which looks as though it was draped perfectly around her.

... and model Molly Sims.

Molly sims looking sophisticated and fun in a sparkley Diane Von Furstenberg dress.
